My Lord,

With reference to Your Lordship's despatch No. 53 of the 16th of February, 1931, on the subject of anti-piracy guards on board Messrs. Butterfield and Swire's ships, I have the honour to confirm my telegram of the 10th of March, 1931, which reads as

follows:-

"No.49.

Your telegram of 25th February No.38. Anking and Kwangtung are running with two Russian Sergeants instead of one British

and one Russian. Change made at request of Captains supported by representative of

Butterfields who considered substitution of

second Russian conducive to smoother working with ships' officers. Great saving in cost was presumably another inducement. Suitability of British Sergeant for charge of Guards not called in question. Remaining two Butterfields steamers on same run retain one British Sergeant".
